Flowers In Her Hair - Fall Styled Shoot - Nikki Schell Photography

October 2, 2017

From the photographer: "This bridal portrait session was planned around a vision that was all things floral and romantic! It actually all started with the location - a beautiful field that had both a bamboo forest and high grasses. I saw it and had the need to photograph something beautiful here. A few months later, I still hadn't photographed anything there even though I constantly suggested it as a location for my couples' engagement sessions! This is when I decided to bring together a team to create a Flowers in Her Hair themed bridal portrait shoot. For the flowers, I knew I wanted soft colors and something a bit wild, but not the typical ivory/greenery combo or the long hanging bouquets that are quite popular right now. I wanted some vibrant soft colors, if that makes sense at all. I explained this to the floral designer Melissa's Creations LLC and let her take my ideas and create her interpretation of it. They absolutely blew me away. For the hair, I specifically knew this would be a major part of the whole look - I wanted something untamed, with flowers in it. The hair stylist Pins-N-Brushes said it all depended on the structure and texture of the model's hair but the braid look she made was beautiful! I searched for a while for a model with the right look (long, thick hair was my main requirement) and when I saw Lauren, I immediately knew. Her long blonde hair was perfect, but her freckles were the extra special touch I didn't know I wanted when I started the planning process. Speaking of her freckles, the make up artist and I were completely on the same page when we discussed make up. We wanted something unique, something that didn't have total coverage because we wanted to show those freckles, and we wanted to stick with almost natural (to go off the idea that a bride with flowers in her hair wouldn't be putting make up on that didn't enhance her natural beauty). The styling was put together by me (Photographer) and I selected the dress because of the beautiful lace back, sleeves (as we were shooting in November), and the chiffon flowy bottom. The faux fur coat was a last minute add as there were 40mph gusting winds the day of the shoot and I did not want the model to freeze. The coat really pulled the styling together in my opinion."
