We love this love story and the nautical decor of this Naval Academy wedding! Not to mention the Maryland touches they added to their reception like the crab cake toppers and old bay favors. Here's what the bride had to say about her special day.....
"Clark and I met in Virginia Beach and had what was a pretty typical first date. Little did we know that the very next day he was going to find out that the Navy was going to transfer him to another state in just 6 short weeks. While very shocking and upsetting at the time, we decided to make the best of those 6 weeks and see where it would take us. Well, I guess it was fate and a way of introducing me to the Navy life very early on! Six weeks past and off he went, while I stayed in VA to finish graduate school. The distance made us continue to grow closer and not once did we let it come between us. We ended up moving to Jacksonville, FL and got engaged in Savanna, GA on leap day! We then got married on April fools day. We figured we had to keep the tradition going with the odd dates and giving everyone a laugh. Besides, when Clark told me he was moving it pretty much felt like April fools day!
When choosing a location for our wedding, we knew we wanted it to be somewhere special and unique and a place where all of our friends and families would want to visit. We both love the water, and with the Navy being a special part of our relationship, I could not think of anywhere better than Annapolis and the Naval Academy. I could not wait for all of our guests to come into town and walk down the cobble streets downtown, taste the amazing food and experience the culture and history.
Our love for the water made it very easy to choose our décor. We knew we wanted something fun and we wanted people to be able to say “that wedding was very Clark and Kathleen”. Clark doesn’t like to admit it, but he chose the colors. We then threw in lots of anchors, nautical roping and we even included some Maryland crabs on top of the cake, which was a personal favorite of mine. When choosing a reception venue, I wanted it to be somewhere intimate and to be at a place where I could make it my own. The USNA Officer’s Club was so welcoming from the very beginning and I felt like a special bride, rather than just another wedding coming through. The rich history on the walls of the club was a special touch, and there was a lot of room for dancing and mingling.
We knew we wanted our wedding to be a celebration and it was most important to us that all our guests had a great time. This was not only a celebration of us, but a celebration of all of those who had been a long for the ride! Annapolis provided us with the most beautiful and perfect backdrop for an unforgettable day!"
